Nature Trail Master Plan and Museum Expansion
For The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

LandMark Design Group was on the design team for the expansion of
one the most successful aquariums and science museums in the country.
The project included the museum expansion, a nature trail, and the
interpretive areas.
LandMark Design Group provided site analysis of the 40-acre site
paralleling Owl's Creek, which included locations and descriptions
of wetlands, vegetation, nature trail alignment, parking expansion
and options for future building sites. The firm prepared guidelines
for nature and bike trails and roadways.
LandMark Design Group provided design document production for this
$30 million project, which expanded building space to more than
120,000 square feet.
LandMark Design Group was responsible for preparing tree inventories,
alignments for all trails, performing wetland delineations and obtaining
necessary wetland permits for the six bridges, three overlooks and
an aviary. Design documents included; stormwater management, erosion
and sediment control, utilities, parking, landscaping, trails for
vehicular and pedestrian use, and a tidal wetland mitigation project,
planted in part by volunteers.
