Harbor Park Baseball Stadium
Norfolk, Virginia
LandMark Design Group developed the site plans for a 12,000-seat
baseball stadium on the downtown waterfront in Norfolk, Virginia.
LandMark Design Group prepared working drawings based on the approved
Master Plan. Our involvement with the waterside stadium continued
through the bidding and construction phases of the project.
LandMark Design Group's scope of services included all traffic,
civil and environmental services, including an environmental constraints
analysis. The footprint of the stadium was then aligned to accommodate
the requirements of the sport, including specific requirements to
match the major league stadium, while avoiding protected resources.
Drainage design utilized the existing drainage systems to the greatest
degree possible, thereby containing costs. Where new systems were
designed, considerations were made for future extensions and ultimate
capacity. The resulting design utilizes two new outfalls, which
have been sized to accommodate all reasonable future considerations.
Wetland permits for stormwater outfalls were obtained. Stormwater
pollution abatement requirements of the CBPA were achieved for this
project located in a designated Intensely Developed Area.
The $18 million multi-purpose stadium, which serves as the home for the Norfolk
Tides (the New York Mets Triple-A minor league team), began construction
in February 1992, and was completed in April 1993. The state-of-the-art
facility is oriented to a waterfront view.

LandMark Design Group was selected in 1993 by the City of Norfolk to prepare
planting, irrigation and hardscape improvements to the Harbor
Park establishment, as well as to provide extensive soil replacement
plans for the stadium's exterior and the adjacent streets
and parking areas. The landscape development took place in
three phases and totaled about $800,000 in construction costs.
Phase I was successfully implemented in the spring of 1994.
